Here is how the plan came about:
1: I want to use my ed. awards to take a backpacking and sea kayaking course in Australia
2 (Several months later): Maybe when I am in Australia, I can just continue traveling and make my way around the world. I could actually travel around the world. Cool.
--Several reservations ensued: I am poor (currently working at a salary of $9000/year). I might get lonely traveling the world by myself.
3 (Solution): I will not just travel around the world, I will VOLUNTEER around the world. In my experience, people coming together in the name of volunteerism have a much more relaxed/enjoyable experience. I will make friends, not be lonely, and still travel the world!
--I will still be poor. Worthwhile use of money though.
The plan so far:
1: AmeriCorps in Denver through August 2011
2: Get high paying job such as barista or cashier to save some money for a year.
--In the meantime Dad and I will do a Global Village trip in Costa Rica or somewhere in Latin America
3: Australia NOLS course July & August--ish (see above link)
4: WWOOF in Indonesia
5: Volunteer In India
6: Meet Cormac in Africa for some variety of volunteering--plans pending
7: HelpX around Europe (most definitely Ireland and Spain)
8: Return home once out of funds or kicked out due to expired passport/visa
